SURVEY: How long did it take you to land your first MSL job? N=416

It is an understatement to say that breaking into the MSL role is difficult and takes a lot of upskilling, dedication, and time...

Too many aspiring MSLs (might) give up too quickly?!

This is the largest survey asking MSLs how long it took them to break in. This survey shows that only 30% managed to get in within 3 months of starting to apply. Another 38% took anywhere from 4 to 12 months. And for the remaining 32% it took more than a year from the time they started applying.

Some key take away:

  1. Don’t give up too quickly
  2. Make sure your CV is MSL-ready, don’t talk too much about your old job(s)
  3. Most candidates failed at their first interview
  4. It takes time to upskill to come across as MSL competitive in your CV and during the interview
  5. Keep at it, perseverance is key, so is upskilling!
